These considerations ultimately turned into a big deal with a network of science, companies, specialists and a group of idealists, the eight of us, who want to make the world a better place.
What we want to create: a worldwide sustainable & innovative development of regions and cities with regional added value and global knowledge transfer. Until we know how and with what digital foundation we want to do this, we will simply start. One of these first projects is taking place in the Braunau region.
Ja zu Braunau! has emerged from the network and is funded by EIT Climate-KIC, a global programme to support social innovation for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Together with SERI (Research Institute for a Sustainable Europe), DREISEITLwesearch, Footprint Consult, regioHELP and Chalmers Tekniska Hogskola, we have set ourselves the goal of making the district of Braunau and its communities "happy, resource-efficient and low-carbon, while keeping it economically successful".
The first step was to determine the regional ecological footprint (the sum of the CO2 footprint and global land consumption) of the population and companies. At the end of October, the results were discussed in the "Innovation Lab" together with Braunau's local stakeholders. In a creative process, measures for implementation were then selected, which are to be incorporated into an overall strategy for the region by the end of the year.
On November 22, the next round was held in the "Reflections Lab", a workshop in which the selected measures were concretized and the topic of the Circular Economy was explained in more detail. The next step is the strategy paper, which must be completed by the end of the year.
