Just over five years ago, the then 20-year-old Matthias Reckendorfer set out to win over the wine world and has now been nominated by Falstaff as Lower Austria's favourite young winemaker for the fourth time. After graduating from the Federal College for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Klosterneuburg and completing several internships abroad, he took over his parents' winery in Ollerdorf an der March, which had previously been run as a sideline, and converted it to a full-time business with the support of his family. This was followed by one consistent step after another: the switch to organic viticulture with certification in 2024, a clear focus on Weissburgunder (pinot blanc) and Riesling as well as a new overall brand identity that also reflects his passion for music. This dynamic quickly paid off. The first successes soon materialised, including a sparkling wine recommendation for New Year from the Grande Dame of wine Jancis Robinson in her newsletter. Now the young winemaker is presenting his entire range to the public: the new website and shop are online, the entire range has been filled into the new bottles, the 2024 vintage has been given the organic label and, last but not least, the new Riesling arioso non-alcoholic 2024 is celebrating its premiere.

Like all wines, this one also bears an attribute from the language of music that describes its style. Weissburgunder Ried Reinthal con espressione, Weissburgunder cantabile and the Maestoso Reserve Brut Blanc de Blancs 2021 made from Weissburgunder are prime examples of these 'Weinviertel wines with a sound'. Weißburgunder (pinot blanc) and Riesling are the two grape varieties that Matthias Reckendorfer specialises in - not only because of their long tradition in the March region, but also because they have found ideal conditions in his Reinthal, Viertel and Vogelsang vineyards on calcareous loam and loess for generations. This special soil structure gives the wines their characteristic minerality and elegance.

Weingut Reckendorfer. Matthias Reckendorfer has been cultivating fifteen hectares of certified organic vineyards since 2019. His vineyards - Reinthal, Viertel and Vogelsang - are located near the border river March to Slovakia. The soils consist of calcareous loam and loess. This region is traditionally home to Weissburgunder and Riesling, two grape varieties that the winemaker specialises in. Matthias Reckendorfer was voted Falstaff's favourite young winemaker in Lower Austria in 2021 and nominated as such in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Since 2025, he has been a member of Gaumen Hoch, a movement for more organic offerings in the catering industry. This emphasises his commitment to sustainability and conscious enjoyment. weingut-reckendorfer.at
