Die Wirtshaustöchter - Heidi Strobl & Sylvia Petz - are cooking up a storm again. This time there is a cheerful apricot dumpling competition at the Dürnberg winery in Falkenstein. Curd dough versus potato dough. Which one is better?

Last year, Die Wirtshaustöchter made their first appearance at the Standbad in Drosendorf in the northernmost part of Lower Austria. This year there is a revival at the Dürnberg Weingut in Falkenstein, Weinviertel. From May to October, a relaxed after-work happening is organised there on the first Friday of every month. Heidi Strobl is the curator. For us, it's therefore a logical step to wield the wooden spoon there too. The picturesque Falkensteiner Kellergasse (wine cellar lane) provides the wonderful setting, the romantic Dürnberg wine cellar the perfect place. A fine glass of wine, seasonal culinary delicacies, relaxed music - and us. The weekend couldn't start much better!

Potato dough versus curd cheese dough. More than a question of faith!
Both are found in Austrian culinary history, supplemented by choux pastry. Which we all agree on: "That's a no-go!"

For Heidi, as a Viennese and Weinviertel native, apricot dumplings must of course be made with curd cheese dough. For Sylvia, who was born in Upper Austria, potato dough is an absolute must. In a cheerful apricot dumpling competition, both varieties are served to our guests. To which group do you belong?

It's in our genes. Heidi Strobl grew up in the Gasthaus Zur Schwarzen Katz in Vienna Hernals and Sylvia Petz in the Gasthaus Strudengau in Grein an der Donau are daughters of innkeepers. We spent our childhood between the kitchen, the bar and the guest room. The inns no longer exist, but we have remained passionate hostesses.
